About
Moon Lady
Marie
Blancas,
is
the owner of Moon Lady boutique in downtown Willits, California.
She was bitten by the fashion bug in 1966 at the early age of fourteen
when she began designing and sewing her own wardrobe. Fashion of her
liking was not available in her small size.
Marie's
first job in the retail apparel world was at Penelope's, a boutique
in Fresno, California. Attendance at her first buying show
in Los Angeles was all it took too send her on the fashion path for
the next forty years.
In the early 1970s, Marie worked for a chain of shoe and clothing
boutiques and at the age of 22, she earned the position as manager of Mandel's in its Fresno store.
Marie's
own store, Moon Lady, was born in 1975 with the financial and emotional
support of Edward and Teresa Bruno. She is eternally grateful to
them. The first three Moon
Lady stores in the Tower District in Fresno provided an opportunity
for Marie to try her hand at design, manufacturing and marketing.
The Moon Lady clothing line was marketed from the Mississippi river
to the Hawaiian Islands. By the early 1980s, Marie had also begun
importing clothing from Bali and Thailand.
In 1992, Marie moved to Mendocino County, Northern California and
opened the first of three successive Moon Lady boutiques in downtown
Willits. Outgrowing the first two spaces, the current store has been
thriving for the past five plus years. It is located at 100 South Main
Street.
